National Museum of Ireland - Country Life
The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life is located 8 kilometres east of Castlebar and 10 minutes drive from The Ellison. Established in 2001, the museum is part of the National Museum of Ireland and is the only national museum outside of Dublin.The museum exhibits the way of life of rural Irish people from 1850 and is in the grounds of Turlough Park House.Visitors will be enlightened and will see historical artefacts which show how domestic life, agriculture, clothing, furniture, trades, transport, sports and religion were back then. This will be a unique experience where visitors will see how Ireland was compared to how it now is. It guarantees to attract and hold the attention and interest of visitors.
Michael Davitt Museum
The Michael Davitt Museum is located in the magnificently restored pre-penal church in the village of Straide, only a 20 minute drive from The Ellison. The museum contains an extensive collection of documents, photo's, Land Acts, letters, postcards, posters and other items connected with Davitt's life. Davitt was christened in this church and is buried in the grounds of the 13th Century Abbey beside the museum

Addergoole Titanic Memorial Park
In April 1912 fourteen men and women from Addergoole, in North Mayo, set sail from Queenstown, Cork for a new life in America. Within days, eleven had died in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. Their ship, RMS Titantic, sank on her maiden voyage. The Addergoole Titanic Memorial Park and the stunning Titantic and Emigration themed stained glass windows can be see in the village of Lahardane, 25 minutes drive from Castlebar along the Lough Conn Drive.
North Mayo Genealogy & Heritage Centre
Located on the grounds of Enniscoe House the centre houses the North Mayo Family History Centre, which provides genealogical research for parishes in the northern part of Co.Mayo. Whether it's exploring your family history, strolling through the organic gardens and the looped walk or feeding your mind with times gone by at our exhibitions and musuem, the North Mayo Heritage Centre is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of the region.
